MCC Replacement & Pump Control Modifications

The Project

We were tasked to supply and install a new Motor Control Centre (MCC) complete with new Ultrasonic pump control in a wet well consisting of 3 submersible pumps on Duty, Assist, Standby and starters for a re-circulation and liquor returns pump. With back up float control should the primary level measurement fail. These were previously controlled by multiple legacy separate control panels.

 

The Solution

Before the work started, we:

  • Carried out a detailed site survey to ascertain power requirements on site to provide suitable scope to approved MCC suppliers to design a suitable MCC for control of the submersible pumps and re-circulation & liquor Returns pump.
  • Completed a Full electrical design, complete with cable calculations, SLDs, BCDs and CCDs
  • Managed communications between all sub-contractors and the client to confirm all requirements are met prior to construction.
  • Managed Civils contractor to facilitate the installation of new ducts to rout new cabling.
  • Completed the design, build and supply of local isolator and marshalling panels (LIMBS)
  • Supplied and installed all containment with suitable segregation between bands of cables.
  • Maintained all existing Telemetry signals to existing outstation and confirm all signals upon completion of commissioning.

We were appointed as the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor under CDM for this project and ensured the utmost care went into each stage of planning, from design to implementation.

We ensured careful and planned coordination with site process requirements, shutdowns and communication with the WOCC, facilitated minimal downtime of the site process, resulting in no uncontrolled discharges or consent failures. This culminated in the successful and safe completion of the project allowing a more robust site.

We engaged with Thames Water regularly throughout the life cycle of the project, building strong relationships that ensured the project’s success. From inception to design stage and throughout installation to commissioning we have engaged with the Client to ensure all their requirements were met.
